From Grofers to Blinkit

Story of Fastest Last-Minute Delivery App

Founded in 2013 by Albinder Dhindsa and Saurabh Kumar, Grofers aimed to solve the problems in India's unorganized grocery sector.

Initially functioning as a logistics provider, Grofers partnered with vendors and pharmacies, but this high burn-rate model led to early challenges.

Grofers made strategic acquisitions like MyGreenBox and TownRush and expanded to multiple cities.

Recognizing a growing demand for faster deliveries, Grofers shifted gears in 2020 and piloted a quick commerce model with "dark stores" in select cities.

By 2021, Grofers delivered over 7,000 groceries in 15 minutes and later introduced 10-minute deliveries in major cities.

In December 2021, Grofers rebranded as Blinkit. In June 2022, Zomato acquired Blinkit for $569 million, signaling significant expansion plans. Today, Blinkit remains a leading player in India's quick commerce space and faces challenges like competition and profitability.
